History
Bolton Hall is named for
two devoted Skidmore professors, Joseph S. G. and Dorothy Boggs
Bolton, who taught and befriended countless students over the
course of four decades. They joined the Skidmore faculty in 1925
and taught English until their retirement in 1962. In 1968, Bolton
Hall was dedicated to the two professors who "opened wide
the doors of the glories of English literature while bestowing
the priceless gift of personal friendship and understanding."
Palamountain Hall is dedicated
to former College President Joseph C. Palamountain Jr. who presided
over 22 years of dreams, faith, challenge, and accomplishment.
Under his leadership, the College completed the new campus and
put its finances in order, the student body doubled, the Liberal
Studies curriculum emerged, a Phi Beta Kappa charter was earned,
student protests were weathered, and coeducation came to Skidmore.
When he retired in 1987, Palamountain had personally presented
diplomas to more than half of Skidmore's alumni.
