Scribner Library

Located in the center of campus, the Scribner Library serves as the heart of academic life at Skidmore. It houses the College's large collection of books and journals, along with many carrels, group study rooms, reading areas, and classrooms.

The library also houses the College's Art History program.

Disability Access

The building is fully wheelchair-accessible, though there is no adjacent parking. Disabled visitors should park in the Case Center lot (use the Case elevators to reach the upper level) or the Filene lot.

History

Named for Lucy Scribner Skidmore, the College founder, the library was the first building constructed on the Jonsson Campus. The building was extensively renovated in 1995, with new wings added on the east and west sides.

Lucy Skidmore Scribner came to Saratoga Springs in 1900 to take the waters and decided to stay. By 1903, she had founded the Young Women's Industrial Club, which in 1911 became Skidmore School of Arts, named for her father. She continued deeply involved with the College until her death in 1935.
