Documentary Studies Summer Experience Award

Summer Documentary Experience Awards are offered on a competitive basis to support Skidmore students who wish to undertake advanced independent, community-based or collaborative documentary projects over the summer or to develop competency in a new documentary modality (e.g. through taking a Summer DS course).

The summer project or training should be grounded in the student’s academic and research interests and significantly enhance and expand upon these interests and the student’s personal learning goals. Students are especially encouraged to continue a project they began during the school year, get an early start on a major project for the subsequent school year, or to pursue training not otherwise available during the regular academic year. Courses or training programs outside of Skidmore may be considered with strong justification. There is no required number of hours needed in order to be considered, but dates of the production or training should be noted in the application materials.

Amount: Students may request funding for up to $1,000, to cover all or part of an experience.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants for the Summer Documentary Experience Award must be currently enrolled at Skidmore College full-time, and be in good academic and financial standing with the College.
  • All students, of all majors, with relevant experience and interest, are invited to apply.
  • Projects and/or trainings must be documentary in nature. For project proposals, preference will be given to students that have taken college-level courses relevant to developing the tools necessary to complete the project -- both the craft (production skills) and subject expertise.
  • Monetary awards cannot be combined with any other award, scholarship, stipend, or grant from the college
  • International students should check with Student Academic Services before applying to identify any requirements they need to meet to qualify for this award.
