Benjamin Givan, Associate Professor of Music, is the author of The Music of Django Reinhardt (U. Michigan Press, 2010). He has published articles about jazz in journals such as the Journal of the American Musicological Society, The Musical Quarterly, Current Musicology, Journal of Musicology, Popular Music and Society, and Journal of the Society for American Music. He teaches courses in jazz history, twentieth- and twenty-first–century music history, film music, music and philosophy, and post-tonal theory. He received an A.B. in Music and History from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Music from Yale University.
