Mercurial Objects: Luxuriant Obsession opens March 25

The Schick Art Gallery at Skidmore College will host a new exhibition titled The Mercurial Object: Luxuriant Obsession from Friday, March 25, to Sunday, May 1, in the gallery, located in the Saisselin Art Center on the Skidmore campus. 

This vibrant and eclectic exhibition features nine regional and national artists who make three-dimensional work in a wide range of materials, including - but not limited to - porcelain, felted wool, carved wood, copper, pipe cleaners, and porcupine quills. An overriding passion for materials is found in all of the work, as well as suggestions of mysterious purpose or function, and a fascination with nature.

Artists in the exhibition are Betsy Brandt of Diamond Point, N.Y.; Sharon Church of Philadelphia, Penn.;Ginger Ertz of Schenectady, N.Y.;Rebecca Hutchinson of Rochester, Mass.; Terrence Lavin of Meriden, Conn.; Bruce Metcalf of Bala Cynwyd, Penn.; Stephanie Metz of San Jose, Calif.; Annabeth Rosen of Davis, Calif.; and Anat Shiftan of New Paltz, N.Y.

This exhibition will open Friday, March 25, with two special events: a gallery talk from 5 to 6 p.m., featuringBetsy Brandt, Ginger Ertz, Terrence Lavin, and Anat Shiftan.An opening reception is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both events will be in the Schick Art Gallery and are free. The public is welcome.

Hours at the Schick Art Gallery are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Admission is free. For more information or directions, please visit the gallery's Web site.
