The ongoing protests, which began in November on Independence Square in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, have spread nationwide and have led to violent clashes with police. Medunytsya, an opposition activist and leading protest organizer, will give an inside look at the protests and present his views on how they turned violent.
Medunytsya is on a tour of U.S. cities including Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Hartford. He will be visiting New York City as well as Albany, Buffalo, and Saratoga Springs.
“We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to hear about the revolutionary events in Ukraine from someone who is so intimately involved in them,” said Skidmore professor Kate Graney, who will serve as moderator of the event. “It will be very exciting to hear perspectives on contemporary events and on Ukraine’s future from an important figure like Mr. Medunytsya.”
The event sponsored by Skidmore’s Office of Community Relations, the Department of Government, and “Understanding the New Europe” (a Faculty Resource Network initiative).
The talk is open to the public free of charge. For information call the Office of Community Relations, 518-580-5744.
