Reception to showcase summer exhibitions at Tang Museum
The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery invites the public to a Gallery Talk by Arturo Herrera and its 2015 Summer Opening Reception, at 5:30 pm Saturday, June 6.
The Berlin-based artist Arturo Herrera's newest abstract paintings, which me makes on books found at flea markets, will be on view in the exhibition Opener 29: Arturo Herrera — Day Before, which also opens Saturday, June 6.
Much of Herrera’s work uses bold colors and familiar forms, referencing the language of abstraction and popular culture. His art proposes a multiplicity of readings while inviting a reinterpretation of modes of representation and seeing. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1959, Herrera received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has exhibited widely in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe.
A reception celebrating the Tang Teaching Museum's exhibitions will follow Herrera's gallery talk from 6:30 to 8 pm. The exhibitions are as follows: Nicholas Krushenick: Electric Soup, Elevator Music 29: Tim Davis — Unphotographable, and Opener 29: Arturo Herrera — Day Before.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, please call the museum's Visitor Services Desk at 518-580-8080 or visit this web site. https://www.skidmore.edu/tang.
