A week of films

September 29, 2015

The next 10 days offer a wide range of films—documentary and feature—on topics designed to appeal to a variety of audiences. Interested in Africa, Latin America, rape on campus, LGBTQ rights, growing up, growing old? Student-made films? Check out the following events and screenings sponsored by the English department, React to Film, and Media and Film Studies, with support from MDOCS.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium, historian Keven Coleman will present  “The photos we don’t get to see.”

There is much we can learn from photographs, both those created for public view and those developed for private viewing or institutional purposes. From a case study drawn from the United Fruit Company's early 20th-century activities in Latin America, Coleman offers a lecture and a workshop to help bring these documentary resources into focus and tease out the stories they help reveal.
