Athletes wrap up semester
Field hockey standouts Dani DeGregory ’16 and Jenn Hanks ’16 have been selected NFCA All-Americans. DeGregory was named to the first-team for
the second straight year. She was the 2015 Liberty League Offensive Player of the
Year and is a three-time first-team all-region selection. This year she led the nation
in points (4.11) and assists per game (1.05) and was second in goals per game (1.53).
She 29 goals and had 20 assists for 78 points.
Hanks earned third-team honors for the second consecutive year. She was selected Liberty
League first-team honors for a second time and is a three-time all-region selection
(first team twice). She had eight goals and five assists for 21 points as a defender
and ranked first in the Liberty League and 16th nationally with nine defensive saves.
Skidmore's men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams closed out the semester at
the Liberty League Championships Dec. 4-5 at Rensselaer.
Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez ’17
The men had the best finish in program history, taking fifth. The women finished eighth.
Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez ‘17 finished a team high third in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:16.83), fourth in the 500
free (4:55.75), 10th in the 200 fly (2:05.79), and 11th in the 200 free (1:48.80).
He was part of the fifth-place 400 free relay team and fourth-place 200 free and 400
medley relays. Hiro Kamei ‘19 broke his own program record in the 100 breaststroke with his seventh-place finish
in 1:00.33.
For the women, Erin Donovan ’17 earned a pair of top finishes: 11th in the 100 back (1:02.03) and ninth in the 200
Back (2:14.13).
The 5-1 men’s basketball team won its fifth straight game with an 82-77 win Dec. 5
over Middlebury. Edvinas Rupkus ’19 was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after scoring 24 points (23 in the second
half) in the win. He was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line over the game’s
final three minutes. Erik Sanders ’16 earned Liberty League Honor Roll with 19 points and eight rebounds against Middlebury.
Veronica Moceri ’18 scored a team-high 14 points off the bench to help the 5-3 women’s basketball team
beat Middlebury 63-60 on Dec. 5. The Thoroughbreds scored 32 points off 28 Panther
turnovers.
The Thoroughbred hockey (2-8-1) team dropped a pair of one-goal road games to No.
12 Hobart College, 2-1 and 4-3, on Dec. 4-5. Marc Cibelli ’17 earned his second straight New England Hockey Conference Honor Roll selection after
scoring three goals in the two games.
