This weekend marks the first Thoroughbred Spirit Weekend as well as the midway point for fall sports at Skidmore College. Fall intercollegiate athletics move into the second half of the 2016 season with Liberty League playoff berths on the line for four teams. Here are highlights at the halfway mark.
The Thoroughbreds field hockey team shook off an early season loss to Babson College and ran off six straight wins, moving back into the NCAA Division III top 10, with a 7-1 record.

Liberty League Golf Performer of the Week Mackenzie Nelson ‘17 shot a three-under-par 70-71—141 to win the 33rd Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury College. Nelson led the T’breds to a convincing first-place finish in the 22-team event.
Tennis standout Michelle Fuca ’18 upset the field to win the USTA/ITA Northeast Singles Championship and a berth in the ITA Oracle Cup Championship Oct. 13-16. She was the feature athlete in the Suburban Sports Roundup podcast.
In soccer, defender Phoebe Martell-Crawford ’19 just wanted to get the ball deep into
the Thoroughbred offense end, but her 40-yard kick sailed past the Plattsburgh goalie
for a stunning goal. The dramatic overtime goal gave the Thoroughbreds a 3-2 win over
their regional rival and was captured on the fan video below:
