In observance of Veterans Day today, Nov. 11, Skidmore held a small ceremony at the campus flagpole. The organizer and emcee was Jim Kennelly, a business professor who holds Skidmore's Ross Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies. He spoke briefly and read The Gift Outright, a patriotic Robert Frost poem.

Local New York State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner also spoke. Larry Britt, associate director of campus safety and a former state trooper, lowered the flag, and Leigh Tooker '17 played Taps on the trumpet.

In announcing the event Kennelly said, "You might be surprised by the number of veterans who are members of our immediate, and extended campus community." As a way to honor their service, he said, he hoped the simple ceremony would be "a meaningful observance."
