From drawings and photographs to textiles, animations, and jewelry, Emergence showcases 13 student artists who are involved in this semester's "Entrepreneurial Artist" course. The exhibition is another collaboration between Skidmore and Saratoga's Spring Street Gallery. Emergence is on view at the gallery at 110 Spring Street until January 20; the opening reception is this Friday, Dec. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition is sponsored at Skidmore by the Arts Administration Program and its Entrepreneurial Artist Initiative, which aims to provide art students with the business skills needed for building a successful career around art making. The initiative offers courses, special workshops, New York City networking, and a summer apprenticeship award. These offerings frequently connect students with entrepreneurial arts alumni across the country, as well as with arts-businesspeople around the region. In this semester's course, students are learning about budgeting and pricing, copyright, marketing, goal setting, networking, and more.

Now in its fourth year, the Entrepreneurial Artist Initiative was developed and continues to be supported by Marblehead Handprints founder Molly Haley '64, along with her husband, Ed Freitag. They plan to attend Friday's opening along with the student artists and others.
