Clarkson Selects Kelsey Yam as New Head Coach for Women's Soccer

The Clarkson University Athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Kelsey Yam as its new Head Coach for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer program. Yam will begin serving as the team's coach in early May, when current coach Sarah Raymond vacates her position.

Yam served as an assistant coach for the past year in Poughkeepsie, NY, helping lead Vassar College to its second Liberty League Tournament appearance in the past five years. Prior to coaching at Vassar, Yam was a part of the Clarkson Women's Soccer staff as the team's top assistant for two years, helping guide the team to 11 wins along with its best conference finish in two decades in 2014.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to be Clarkson's next Head Women's Soccer Coach," Yam remarked. "Coach Raymond has built a program with an amazing team culture, and one with so much potential for success. I feel lucky to take over the program at such an exciting time in its history. A Clarkson experience is invaluable, and I cannot wait to return and continue working with the university's exceptional student-athletes and staff members."

"We are pleased to welcome Kelsey back on staff," Clarkson University Athletic Director Steve Yianoukos said. "Kelsey's knowledge of the Liberty League and her understanding of what it takes to recruit quality student-athletes to Clarkson made her a natural choice to be the next head coach. I am looking forward to a seamless transition as Kelsey continues to build on the solid foundation that Sarah Raymond has built as well as put her own stamp on the program."

Yam, a native of Longmeadow, MA, graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in Management & Business and a minor in Mathematics in 2013 prior to earning her MBA from Clarkson in May 2015. She played for four seasons with the Thoroughbreds, gaining all-conference status on three occasions, as Skidmore compiled a 38-26-9 record during her four seasons with the program, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2009 and 2011). A midfielder and forward, Yam scored 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points in 73 games, including 69 starts. She was a Liberty League First-Team all-star as a sophomore and junior, gaining NSCSAA Division III All-East honors in 2011, and was chosen as a Liberty League Second-Team all-star in 2012.

Just after graduation from Skidmore, Yam served as an assistant coach with Black Watch Premier Soccer, and she also participated in Uganda with the Soccer Without Borders program in the summer of 2012, helping to raise money for underprivileged kids worldwide while coaching soccer and teaching classes to children and young adults aged 5-to-20.
