Skidmore's 34th annual Filene Scholarship Winners Concert is at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in the Zankel Music Center's Ladd Concert Hall; it's free and public. On stage will be Kara Charles, viola; Samuel Dusman, baritone; Joseph Walker Stroud, violin; and Trey Smith, bass. They'll be on stage a lot in the next four years, but whether they'll go on to professional performing careers—or even major in music—is by no means predetermined.

"The Shostakovich piece I'm performing is exciting, while the Bach sarabande brings sweet sorrow into the program and finishes with an upbeat C major prelude," says cellist George Dilthey '16. "My Mozart piece tells a story," adds pianist Lauren Soong '16 with equal enthusiasm. "The composition is filled with excitement, anguish, and everything in between." Both first-year Filene Scholars, Dilthey and Soong are eager to share their musical talents with the Skidmore community in the Filene Scholarship Winners Concert, October 25 at 8 p.m. in the Arthur Zankel Music Center.
