Sónia Silva, associate professor of anthropology, published an essay titled "Art and Fetish in the Anthropology Museum" in the interdisciplinary journal Material Religion. At stake in this article are the African art exhibitions held in Europe and North America in the 1920s–1980s, the colonial concept of the religious fetish which those exhibitions displaced, and the illustrative case study of the National Ethnology Museum in Portugal.
