Programs You Can Support

Unrestricted Gifts

By making a gift to the unrestricted fund for the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, you are supporting education, students who span all ages, and the fine and performing arts. Your unrestricted gift makes an impact across many fields and will be used where the need is greatest.

Unrestricted gifts also support new initiatives. Our staff continually explores opportunities to match our strengths with the educational needs of a wide array of constituencies. We pride ourselves on our ability to introduce the community to the latest educational and artistic ventures, and to make a difference in the lives of our students. Your tax deductible gift, large or small, helps us make that difference.

Scholarship Funding

Skidmore prides itself on its commitment to access and diversity and actively seeks out and opens its doors to bright students who typically lack the financial resources to enroll in special programs such as ours. The students in our programs form a wonderfully diverse mix of individuals, different from one another in their age, economic status, racial and ethnic backgrounds, but all sharing a common commitment to academic and artistic achievement as well as personal growth. Scholarship funding is needed in the following programs to provide opportunities for students who might not otherwise be served:

  • Camp Northwoods
  • Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS)
  • Mature Adults Lecture Series
  • New York State Summer Writers Institute
  • Pre-College Program
  • Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI)
  • Skidmore Jazz Institute
  • Summer Dance Workshop
  • Summer Sports Camps

Support for Artistic Innovation

Collaborations that allow artists to cross from one discipline to another create an atmosphere of infinite possibilities for our students. Support in this area allows for the creation of new work commissioned by the Office of the Dean of Special Programs.

Drawing on an existing rich artistic environment, we envision projects matching choreographers with jazz musicians, writers with visual and musical artists, and dance/theater collaborations. Funds supporting this innovation will advance Skidmore's reputation for creative experimentation. This type of support is needed for:

  • New York State Summer Writers Institute
  • Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI)
  • Skidmore Jazz Institute
  • Summer Dance Workshop

Technology Support

This support is vital in allowing us to explore innovative delivery models, including Internet courses and evening seminars. Computer and communications technologies break the barrier of time and place, bringing students together with academic resources and analytical discourse. The following programs are at the forefront of computer-based learning and need your support:

  • Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS)
  • Summer Term

Support for Visiting Artists

Funds that support visiting artists from around the world advance the quality of our programs. We seek to expand the ever-widening circle of world-renowned artists, musicians, writers, and performers who take advantage of Skidmore's state-of-the-art facilities while providing guidance and inspiration to our students. Exposure to recognized leaders in the field can have a tremendous impact on the careers of young artists and add immeasurably to the quality of the artistic work they create.

Help fund-visiting artists to further enhance:

  • New York State Summer Writers Institute
  • Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI)
  • Skidmore Jazz Institute
  • Summer Dance Workshop

Lectureship Funds

We can advance the quality of the education students receive in the programs listed below by increasing our ability to attract ever more prominent scholars and teachers to work with students, in a variety of settings, in the programs listed below:

  • Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS)
  • New York State Summer Writers Institute

The McCormack Endowed Visiting Artist-Scholar Residency

To help ensure that the wonderfully rich artistic heritage of Skidmore Summer Programs can be brought to bear during the academic year – in classes, in interactions with faculty and students, in performances, readings, exhibitions, and other venues-the Board of Trustees has authorized creation of the McCormack Endowed Visiting Artist-Scholar Residencies.
