Building Bridges Pre-Orientation Program

Building Bridges is a fun and dynamic introduction to diversity and leadership opportunities at Skidmore College. This pre-orientation program provides interested students an opportunity to talk openly and honestly about diversity and social change while meeting other students with similar interests and goals.

This program challenges students to think critically and creatively about building and sustaining a campus culture that values diversity, promotes social justice, and builds community. As a Building Bridges participant, you will join a dedicated team of staff and student leaders who work on various diversity-related projects throughout the academic year. By taking part in Building Bridges, you will begin your college experience with an opportunity to develop friendships, contribute to meaningful discussions and take risks while enhancing your leadership ability.

This workshop will be lead by Mariel Martin, Interim Director of Student Diversity Programs at Skidmore College and other campus and community leaders.

Activities Include:

Exercises and discussions that enable you to learn more about race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, social class, and religion.

Leadership development workshops focusing on resources at Skidmore, effective leadership, how to get involved and stay motivated, and much more.

Social Events with junior graduates of Skidmore’s January 2007 Leadership Institute including game nights and activities in downtown Saratoga Springs!
