Going global

Going global

From Auckland to Valencia, Skidmore students around the world respond to the annual photo challenge run by the Office of Off-Campus Study and Exchanges. With almost 60 percent of the class of 2012 studying abroad, it was no surprise that an average for 50 students participate every year, entering up to five photos in the “student experience” or “sense of place” category. A judging committee determined the best of each category as well as an overall “best in show.”

This year’s winners were announced at an art show and coffeehouse celebration called Lucy Goes Global. Coordinated with the student-run Lively Lucy’s coffeehouse, the event was a chance for on-campus students and staff to welcome the travelers back  from their off-campus locations.

First prize under “student experience” went to Jillian Celestino ’13 for Hostmother, is this how I cook the pop? and for “sense of place” to Melissa Green ’13 for Evening on the Ganga.  “Best in show” was awarded to Jenna Kellet ’13 for Oldest Priest at the Taratarini Temple.  See these and other great images below.
