Transfer Student Registration Step by Step

Create Skidmore User Account

After you have created your Skidmore User Account:

Step 1: Getting Organized

Take time to review the information included in your registration packet before beginning the registration process. You should have received information on how to create a user name and password (orange sheet) that you will use for both email and access to the Skidmore Student System. If you have not already done so, please create your user information by inputting your Skidmore ID number provided in the packet along with your date of birth. You will also be asked to select a reminder hint and provide a response that will be used for authentication purposes should you forget your password in the future.

Step 2: If you believe you are eligible to receive academic accommodations based on a documented disabling condition, complete the Application for Academic Accommodations and return it as soon as possible with appropriate documentation to the Office of Student Academic Services (SAS). Please see the Student Academic Services (SAS) web site for additional information.

Step 3: Transfer Credit Evaluation and Registration Assistance

a) You will receive an email from Sharon Clemmey of the Registrar's Office. She will assist with the following:

•  Course selections
•  Transfer credit evaluation
•  Academic options
•  You are also encouraged to speak with the chair of the department in which you hope to major for additional guidance and assistance.

b) Prior to registration:

•  Navigate to Registrar's home page http://www.skidmore.edu/registrar/
•  Click New Student tab across the top
•  Review transfer student links
•  Review the materials enclosed in the Registration Packet, checking on suggestions for a first semester schedule made by each department in the Student Academic Handbook and reading course descriptions included in the College Catalog http://hudson2.skidmore.edu/catalog/2008-09/_contents.htm

•  Be sure to check pre-requisites & special permissions.
•  You can use the Master Schedule http://www2.skidmore.edu/MasterSchedule/ to begin to prepare a rough draft of a list of courses you may wish to enroll in for the semester.
•  Fill out the Schedule Worksheet http://www.skidmore.edu/registrar/forms/schedule-worksheet.pdf , including the call number for each section. This will help speed things up for you when you are enrolling. The open/closed status of each section is noted on the Master Schedule.

Step 4: Registering for Your Classes

Review the Student System Features
•  Web Registration http://www.skidmore.edu/ registra r/ registra tion/reg_steps.htm
•  Student System Information http://www.skidmore.edu/registrar/forms/IGSMwhatsnew.pdf

Login to the Student System

•  Use Internet Explorer, if possible
•  Go to Registrar's Office homepage http://www.skidmore.edu/ registra r/index.htm
•  Click on Starting Gate graphic marked Login and enter user name and password
•  Click on the link “ Schedule Spring 2009 – UG – Enrollment Now Open”
•  Click on the Quick Add button, enter course call number(s) and click “ Apply ”. The course(s) will go directly to your schedule unless you receive a warning or error message.
•  If you do not know the call number you can click the “ Search and Add ” button.

Always verify your final schedule and make sure the status for each course says "Enrolled".

NOTE ON ERROR MESSAGES: If there is a problem with any of your selected courses (for instance, time conflicts, missing pre-requisites, closed courses, or special permission required), you will be redirected to what is called the “Enrollment Cart”. You are not officially enrolled in your courses until you resolve the problems in your Cart, click “Enroll”, and verify in your schedule that you are enrolled. Follow the directions listed in the cart. This may require deleting courses from your cart or requesting special permission for a course by sending a message to the instructor.

Note : Some sections will inevitably close. If you wish to be on a wait list, you may do so – but you are limited to three waitlists. Also, please note that you may not waitlist in a class if you have a seat in another section of that same class. Being on a waitlist does not constitute enrollment, you are simply waiting for a seat to become available. Do enroll for alternatives - only up to 18 credits, otherwise you will not be automatically enrolled off a waitlist.

If you run into any difficulties, you can call the Registrar's Office at (518)580-5710 during regular business hours (8:30AM-Noon, 1-4PM) Monday through Friday or email registrar@skidmore.edu . Someone will try to assist you with either technical issues or academic questions.
