Skidmore Retirees

Robert G. Homan

Robert G. Homan, a longtime member of the facilities and dining services staffs, died March 1, 2012.

A resident of Saratoga Springs for much of his life, Bob worked at Skidmore for 32 years in various capacities, including in the dining hall and on the grounds and housekeeping staffs. Bob was a member of the Custodial Operations staff when he retired in 1999.

Colleen Manning, supervisor of events and housekeeping, remembered Bob’s love of motorcycling and machines. “He loved riding his motorcycle, which he did all the time with his brother,” she said. “And he loved driving the machinery that was used to do the grounds work.”

She added, “Bob spoke to everyone. Everyone seemed to know him.” Bob was a past member of the Adirondack Riders, a regional motorcycling group. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Lake George.

He is survived by his niece, Lynne Herriman, of Queensbury, who is on the staff of Skidmore’s Custodial Operations; Bob lived with Lynne and her husband, Dean. Other survivors include a sister, Jean O’Dell of Lake George; nieces Carol Duers of Lake George and Joann Bodnar of Schuylerville; and nephew William Homan.

The family suggested memorial donations in Bob’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Lake George, 78 Montcalm St., Lake George, NY 12845.
