Alumni Awards 2013
Ten Skidmore alumni were recognized during Reunion Weekend at the Alumni Association Recognition Ceremony for their professional and life achievements and contributions to the College. They were selected by the Alumni Awards Committee, which began considering nominations in the fall and met in early February to make their selections.
“I know I speak for everyone on the committee when I say that we are constantly astonished by the spectacular achievements of our alumni, as well as the deep commitment to the College that so many have demonstrated – sometimes over a period of decades – in support of the College,” said Alumni Awards Committee Chair Steven Cohen ’72, P ’10, who presented the awards with Alumni Association President Gail Dudack ’70, P’11 and President Philip A. Glotzbach.
“This is our opportunity to recognize the application of the Skidmore experience in
the pursuit of excellence and to express our deep appreciation to those Skidmore alumni
whose support of the College has been consistent and unflagging.”
Below are brief excerpts from their remarks and links to their profiles.
“I have been affiliated with the Cancer Support Community for over 22 years now, and I have witnessed its growth from a fledgling organization that called the basement of a mattress store home to a global force of more than 700 employees who license mental health professionals dedicated to providing support to all cancer patients.”
"'Every day should feel this good' is the Vineyard Vines motto, and quite frankly that’s how I felt every day I was at Skidmore."
“Skidmore just keeps giving me more and more wonderful people to work with. Everyone here is passionate about the College, and Skidmore does things so right.”
“I have found that, in volunteering, you get more back than you ever put into it. You have the opportunity to give back to the College, but mostly it gives me the opportunity to keep in touch with my fabulous Class of ’57 friends.”
“She’s such a wonderful person and she deserves every bit of applause that you give her … At Skidmore, she was everybody’s best friend.”
“I’ve always felt so lucky to have benefited from a Skidmore education, so how could I not over the last many, many years not give back to the College that gave me this opportunity.”
“I feel this is a shared award with all of the people I’ve had the privilege to work with. I have made so many friendships that are enduring and rewarding.”
“Do not ever put the word ‘never’ in your vocabulary. Life takes you down very interesting and unexpected paths.”
"Most important for me so far has been the interdisciplinary nature of inquiry that Skidmore infused in me."
“We’re all different. We all have different backgrounds. We’re so interdisciplinary. I love that about Skidmore.”
One of the most gratifying experiences of being a Skidmore alumna/us is the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of one of our own. The Alumni Association Board of Directors actively seeks to identify alumni who deserve to be recognized for their achievements. If you know a Skidmore alumna/us who meets the criteria for one of these awards, visit the Call for Nominations page to learn more and fill out a nomination.
