Artist Statement: Fabian Lopez

The process of painting allows me to reinterpret various experiences through diverse subjects of interest which carry a narrative structure. I am interested in multiple interpretations of the same event within the space between nonfiction and fiction in relation to personal events associated by a location. For example, Ernest Hemingway wrote A Movable Feast many years after his experiences in Paris, France. Hemingway recalls a vague perception which benefited his autobiographical story, not giving direct facts nor other people’s point of view. My paintings function in this regard, the intersection between fabricated narratives based on physical experiences within a place.
