  • Franklin Community Center
  • Latino Advocacy Program

And a new addition to celebrate our 10th year: Saratoga Center for the Family.

Skidmore Cares—a special community outreach by the college’s faculty and staff—will celebrate its 10th anniversary when the campus observes Skidmore Cares Friday on Dec. 4.

Each year Skidmore comes together as a community to celebrate and strengthen connections with each other and to improve the circumstances of neighbors in Saratoga Springs and the region. Since being launched in 2006, the college has celebrated the holiday season by donating nearly $58,000 in monetary gifts, 12,500 food items and 8,000 school supplies and personal-care items to Saratoga organizations that do good work throughout the year.

Again this year President Philip Glotzbach and Marie Glotzbach invite the campus staff and faculty to the annual Skidmore Cares Holiday Open House, scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at Scribner House. Attendees are encouraged to bring their family members and join with co-workers from across the college to celebrate the season. There are children’s activities in the carriage house, music and refreshments. All attending are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items and school supplies for donating to local service agencies. The items may be left in the sleigh in front of the house.

Early next week, donations will be made to the following organizations: The Salvation Army, Mary’s Haven, Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, Saratoga Springs School District PATHS Program, Franklin Community Center, Corinth Central School District, Latino Community Advocacy Program, Shelters of Saratoga, Wellspring, and a 10th organization in honor of this milestone year: Saratoga Center for the Family.

“Skidmore Cares Friday is a terrific opportunity for the people of Skidmore College to gather at Scribner House and celebrate the holiday season by giving back to the community that means so much to us throughout the year,” said Marie Glotzbach.

This annual effort engages people across the Skidmore community. Scores of team leaders coordinate efforts in academic departments and administrative offices. Hundreds of faculty and staff contribute canned food, school supplies and toiletries to the effort. Cash donations come from Skidmore’s preferred vendors and most significantly from the wildly popular Beatlemore Skidmania concerts, with much of the proceeds contributed to Skidmore Cares. Other student organizations that are involved in the success of Skidmore Cares include Benef-Action and the Student Athlete Advisory Council.
