The Suzuki Company of Toga, Japan
Celebrated Japanese Director Tadashi Suzuki returns to the US with his renowned Suzuki Company of Toga, Japan to present The Trojan Women. For this production, Mr. Suzuki marries this pinnacle of the Greek tragedies with the classical Japanese form of Kabuki and Noh and transforms Euripides into a contemporary Japanese author. Suzuki’s Trojan Women has been called an “outburst of anguish about the ravaging of the human soul” (Mel Gussow). This evening is performed in Japanese with supertitles although audience members do not have to understand Japanese to appreciate the superbly expressive acting. The SCOT Company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 and has performed in 84 cities and 31 countries world-wide. Tadashi Suzuki is the founder of Japan’s first international theater festival (Toga) and the creator of the Suzuki Method of Actor Training. He and Anne Bogart co-founded the SITI Company, originally known as the Saratoga International Theater Company.
