The
University Without Walls began in 1971 as an experiment in non-traditional education jointly funded by the Ford Foundation
and the U.S. Department of Education, and has been granting Skidmore College
degrees since 1975.
Operating
under the auspices of the Office of the Dean of Special Programs at Skidmore College,
UWW was registered with the State of New York. Skidmore College
is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges
and Schools.
