UWW FAST FACTS

Do I need previous college credits to enter UWW?
The quick answer is that previous college experience is helpful, but not required. To get an idea of how your specific professional, volunteer, and academic history might translate to credit, you will need to speak with a UWW academic advisor.

What if I earned poor grades in high school and my earlier college-level work?
We are more interested in the fact that you completed high school (or received your GED) than your specific grades. In addition, most adult students have gained quite a bit of maturity, focus, and motivation since high school. UWW accepts transfer credit from accredited institutions for coursework graded a C or better.

Can I get credit for experience?
Yes! If you have learned things in your life or work equivalent to what you may have acquired in a college classroom, it may be possible to incorporate that learning into your UWW program. UWW will assess your experiential credit once you have enrolled.

Do I need to live near the Skidmore campus?
No! Most of our students live beyond driving distance from the campus. While three campus visits are required for all students, the program is structured for students to learn at any distance from campus, whether right in town or abroad.

How are courses offered through UWW?
The UWW program enables a student to learn in several different ways, such as courses at a local institution, independent study with Skidmore faculty or other qualified individuals, correspondence courses offered by major universities, on-line courses, and supervised internships. Each semester local students can also take advantage of evening seminars in the liberal arts, specifically designed for UWW enrollees and offered on the Skidmore campus.

What fields can I pursue as a UWW student?
All UWW students develop programs in individualized studies, within which they can focus their study in most traditional academic fields, in some pre-professional areas such as business and human services, and in creative interdisciplinary areas. See Degree Plan for examples.

How long will it take to get a degree?
The amount of time needed to complete the degree depends on two factors: (1) how much college level learning a student has completed before entering UWW, and (2) how quickly a student completes the requirements after enrolling. There is no limit to the amount of previous learning UWW will accept, provided it meets the standard for a Skidmore UWW degree. Once enrolled, students may work at any pace they choose, although there are minimum guidelines for students receiving financial aid.

How much does UWW cost?
Please review our cost page. You'll find that UWW is a highly affordable way to earn a Skidmore degree. Financial aid is also available.

Do I need to send in all my application materials at once?
No, but your admissions interview will not be scheduled until we have all official transcripts, other materials, and the $60 application fee.

Is there a sense of community among UWW students?
Yes. Enrolled students can choose to be listed in our online student directory. In addition, students have gotten to know each other through UWW online courses and have continued to correspond and support each other through and beyond their UWW careers.

Is a UWW degree really a Skidmore degree?
Yes. Skidmore approves all degrees and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredits Skidmore College.
