Action-Based and Compound Target Groups

You can create a new target group, based on an old one, to target people who did or did not do various things - open, click, etc. This is called behavior segmentation, and is useful for increasing engagement by specifically focusing on under-engaged recipients, or for increasing engagement by spending more resources on those already engaging successfully.

Some basic criteria to consider targeting are:

Please note: re-sending the exact same content is not recommended! Whatever new response you are trying to get, or re-enforce, you should not be resending the same content as the previous email. Change things up, such as new subject lines, new content, different grapics, different text on the call to action button, etc.


 Create a New Action-Based Group

  1. Click Subscribers> Target Groups.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Select Action-Based from the drop down.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Type in a name for your target group. Remember to be specific, so you can find it again!
  6. Leave the drop down with Action-Based selected.
  7. Click Next. 

    In this screen you select what criteria you want your new action-based group to be based on. You can only choose one option.

  8. Choose your action option from the various selections. 
  9. Click Next.
  10. From the drop down, select the specific mailing that you want to make the new group from (the mailing you are re-targeting).
  11. Click Next.
  12. Your new target group will appear in the Action-Based target group listing, and be available for you to select when creating your new mailing.
