Skidmore's
Anthropology Program encourages students to incorporare study abroad
in their anthropology major. Anthropology students are well-prepared
for cross-cultural study abroad experiences, as they have studied
the customs, traditions, values, and life of different cultures in
the classroom. Studying abroad is akin to doing anthropological fieldwork
in that students are immersed within another culture and must learn
to understand their surroundings in order to succeed. Many of the
approved anthropology programs offer students opportunities to engage
in language training, participate in home stays, and complete field-based
independent study projects. Students also participate in archaeological
study abroad or summer programs, visiting and working in well-known
sites around the world.
