Name: Sarah
Hennessey, 2000 Where: Nepal Name: Elissa Silver, 2000
Summary of Program: Studied the natural and human environment of Nepal. Lived with a Tibetan family for 2 months. Went trekking for 3 weeks, while having Nepali language classes every morning for 4 hours. Also had lectures at the university in Kathmandu. Did an independent study project on Food as Medicine in the Ayurvedic Tradition. Would you recommended this program
to other students? "Yes, SIT does a good job of introducing you
to a third world culture. There are local language teachers who stay
with the program the whole semester to help you with the language and
culture. They really get you out and doing things on your own." Where: Haifa,
Israel Name: Lisa Fine Summary of Program: "I began this program on a kibbutz orientation for six weeks, to get accustomed to the language, culture, country, and to have a kibbutz experience. Then I studied at the university for the rest of my time, and took Hebrew and courses involving Israeli culture. We had class four days of the week, and had the rest of the time to explore Israel, either through the overseas department's trips or independently." Would you recommended this program
to other students? "I would certainly recommend this program to
others, particularly because students live in dorm apartments with Israeli
and Arab students, unlike most other programs in Israel."
