September 30
VOLLEYBALL WINS AT HOME
The Skidmore College volleyball team improved to 8-13 with a 3-1 win over Hamilton College Tuesday night. Courtney Lambert led the Thoroughbreds with 47 assists. Becky Harman added 22 digs for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore is at the Hartwick Tournament this weekened.

FIELD HOCKEY IS 8-1
Hallory Mogren scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 5-1 win over Oneonta State. Senior Colleen Barber scored a goal and had two assists to reach the 100-point career mark and set the Skidmore career assist record. The Thoroughbreds, ranked seventh nationally, are off until Oct. 10.

UCAA HONORS TWO
Two Skidmore College athletes received Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association weekly honors for the week ending September 29.

Freshman field hockey standout Katie Weber of Princeton, N.J. was the UCAA Performer of the Week and freshman volleyball player Darryl Manzer of Camden, N.Y. was the UCAA Rookie of the Week.

Weber scored the game-winning goal in each of Skidmore’s UCAA wins last week, a 4-1 win over RPI and an 8-0 win over Vassar. She had the final three goals of the game against RPI for her first intercollegiate hat trick.

Manzer set a team record with nine solo blocks in a loss to Western Connecticut in the MIT Tournament. She had a team-high 49 kills, .402 hitting percentage, and 24 blocks (1.6 per game) in four matches.

September 27
FIELD HOCKEY RIPS VASSAR, 8-1
Victoria Davis scored two goals to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to an 8-0 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association win over Vassar College, Saturday at Skidmore Stadium.

Seven different players scored for the Thoroughbreds (8-1, 3-0 UCAA). Skidmore outshot Vassar 27-1 and Thoroughbred goalie Jenna Spackman did not have to make a save.

Skidmore is ranked seventh nationally and has won 11 straight UCAA regular-season games.

MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO ST. LAWRENCE, 2-0
St. Lawrence University moved to 2-0 in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association play with a 2-0 win over Skidmore College, Saturday afternoon at Skidmore Stadium.

Joe Domingo’s goal off a rebound at 11:18 was all the Saints needed. Charlie Bogosian scored an insurance goal at 78:24 to make it 2-0. Jordan James had one save for the shutout. St. Lawrence, ranked third nationally, is 8-1 overall.

Rollie Kielman had 10 saves for Skidmore (4-5, 1-1 UCAA).

September 26
FIELD HOCKEY BEATS RPI, 4-1
Katie Weber scored three goals and Annie Ledyard added a goal each to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Rensselaer.

Skidmore, ranked seventh nationally, fell behind when Jessica Butler gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead with 10:43 to play in the first half. It was all Skidmore after that, with the Thoroughbreds scoring four straight.

Skidmore is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in UCAA play. The Thoroughbreds host Vassar on Saturday at 5 p.m.

MEN'S SOCCER OPENS UCAA PLAY WITH 3-0 WIN OVER CLARKSON
The Skidmore College men's soccer team improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in UCAA play with a hard fought 3-0 win over Clarkson. Will Mudge, Colin Minte, and Ben Shriner scored for the Thoroughbreds. Rollie Kielman had six saves for the shutout. Skidmore will host St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES AT CLARKSON, 1-0
Wendy Spindler's goal at 49:33 held up to give Clarkson a 1-0 UCAA win over Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds are 4-2 overall and 0-1 in UCAA play. Clarkson improves to 2-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the UCAA. Skidmore is at St. Lawrence on Saturday.

SKIDMORE GOLFERS WIN NINTH STRAIGHT UCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

RESULTS


Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--Skidmore College won its ninth straight Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association title and finished third in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate New York Division III regional Thursday at the Saratoga Spa State Park Championship Course.

The UCAA tournament results were pulled from the ECAC Regional results and used a best four of seven scores. The ECAC was a best four of five scoring.
The University of Rochester won the ECAC Regional with a 302, one stroke ahead of Clarkson at 303. Skidmore was third with 304. Williams (306), Nazareth (307), St. Lawrence (308), and Hamilton (312) all qualified for the ECAC III Championship to be held Oct. 4-5 at the Spa State Park Course.
Also qualifying was Plattsburgh’s Eric Wallace, who shot a two-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors.

In UCAA scoring, Skidmore was first with 299, one stroke ahead of Rochester (300) and Clarkson (303). The Thoroughbreds have now won all nine UCAA tournaments played since the league began play in 1995.

Clarkson’s Eric Wallace and Ryan Kelly tied Hamilton’s Brian Williams for UCAA medalist honors at 71. Wallace, Kelly and Williams earned UCAA First-Team All-Star honors, along with Rochester’s Patrick Shanahan (72) and St. Lawrence’s Kyle Rank (72). Kelly was also the UCAA Rookie of the Year.
UCAA Second-Team All-Stars were Skidmore’s Ross Morgan (73), Mike Stiller (75), and Case Button (75) and Rochester’s Dave Masters (75), Jason Bronstein (75), and Colin Quillinan (75).

SKIDMORE ATHLETES EARN UCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Skidmore College field hockey All-America Colleen Barber (Fort Ann, N.Y./Fort Ann) and women’s soccer standout Morgan Cadwell were selected Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Offensive Performer of the Week in their respective sports.

Barber is honored for the second straight week after she had two goals and an assist in a 3-2 win over Utica College and two goals and an assist in a 5-0 win over fifth-ranked McDaniel College.

Cadwell scored two goals in a 2-0 win over Hartwick College in the team’s lone game of the week. She now has a team-high eight goals for the 4-1 Thoroughbreds

MEN'S TENNIS RIPS VERMONT, 5-2

The Skidmore College men's tennis team won its only fall match, 5-2, over the University of Vermont. Nate Temin won 6-0, 6-2 at number one singles and Greg Sher won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at number two singles for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore will compete in the ITA regionals Sept. 26-28 at Vassar.

GOLFERS WIN AGAIN

Sophomore Mike Stiller (Cambridge, Mass.) shot an even-par 72 to lead the Skidmore College “White” team to first place in the 18th Annual Skidmore Fall Classic Golf Tournament.

The Thoroughbreds shot 305 to finish five strokes ahead of second-place Middlebury College in the 11-team event. Williams was third with 312 and Oswego State was fourth with 326.

Skidmore will travel to the Williams Invitational this Saturday and Sunday.

WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS HARTWICK, 2-0

Morgan Cadwell scored two goals to lead the Skidmore College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Hartwick College. Cadwell now has eight goals in her first five games. Rebecca Johnson and Kirstin Alphin combined for five saves for the Thoroughbreds.

Senior All-America Collen Barber (Fort Ann, N.Y./Fort Ann) scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Utica College.

Carrie Caunter (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) had three assists and Hallory Morgan added a goal for the Thoroughbreds. Jenna Spackman had two saves in goal for Skidmore (4-1).

UCAA HONORS THREE

Three Skidmore College athletes received Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association weekly honors for the week ending September 14.

Senior All-American field hockey standout Colleen Barber of Fort Ann, N.Y. was the UCAA Performer of the Week, while freshman Katie Weber of Princeton, N.J. was the UCAA Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.

Barber scored one goal and added two assists in a 7-0 win over UCAA rival Union College and had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Keene State. Weber had a goal and an assist in each game to win the award for a second straight week.

Golfer Stuart Drahota of Fort Collins, Colo. was the UCAA Rookie of the Week after winning the Skidmore Invitational with a two-under-par 70. He also took 39th in the Middlebury Duke Nelson Invitational.

September 13
FIELD HOCKEY MOVES TO 3-1

Senior All-America Colleen Barber and freshman Katie Weber had a goal and an assist each to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Keene State College on Saturday. Emily Clark (Stillwater, N.Y./Emma Willard) also scored for the 13th ranked Thoroughbreds. Jenna Spackman had one save in goal for Skidmore, while Michelle Codding had 12 saves for Keene (1-2). The 3-1 Thoroughbreds will host Utica College on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

FIELD HOCKEY RIPS UNION 7-0

The Skidmore College field hockey team used a balanced attack to post a 7-0 UCAA road win over Union College on Thursday. Six different players scored for the Thoroughbreds (2-1, 1-0 UCAA). Annie Ledyard led the way with two goals.
Skidmore will host Keene State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

SKIDMORE ATHLETES EARN UCAA HONORS

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—Four Skidmore College athletes received Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association weekly honors for the week ending September 7.

Men’s soccer player Phil Robinson was the UCAA Defensive Performer of the Week after earning Plattsburgh State Tournament MVP honors. The junior from Teaneck, N.J. held tournament offensive MVP Mike Figliola of Plattsburgh to no points in the championship game after he scored three goals in a semifinal.

Women’s soccer freshman Faleesha Higgins of New Lebanon, N.Y. was the UCAA Rookie of the Week after she scored three game-winning goals in three straight Skidmore wins.

Freshman Katie Weber of Princeton, N.J. was the UCAA Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after starting her collegiate career by scoring two goals in a 6-0 win over Oswego State.

Whitney Dolan of Cumming, Ga. was the UCAA Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week after going 2-0 at number one singles in a pair of wins for the Thoroughbreds.

NFHCA RANKS SKIDMORE FIELD HOCKEY 13th IN FIRST DIVISON III POLL
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—The Skidmore College field hockey team is ranked 13th in the first National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Poll of the 2003 season.

The College of New Jersey is first with 13 first place votes. Messiah College is second and Rowan University is third.

The Thoroughbreds are 1-1 after a 3-2 road loss to eighth-ranked Middlebury College. Skidmore will open defense of its Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association title at Union on Thursday and then return home Saturday to face Keene State in a 1:00 game.

September 9
GOLFERS OPEN WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

Freshman Stuart Drahota (Ft. Collins, Colo.) shot a two-under-par 70 to lead the Skidmore College “White” team to first place in the 23rd Annual Skidmore Invitational Golf Tournament.

The Thoroughbreds shot 294 to finish 21-strokes ahead of second-place St. Lawrence in the 11-team event. Hamilton was third with 322 and Potsdam was fourth with 326.

Skidmore swept the top three places with Ben Ahles taking second with 72 and Ross Morgan finishing third with 75. Skidmore’s Scott Newell, playing as an individual, ,tied St. Lawrence’s Kyle Rank for fourth at 76.

Skidmore will compete in the Middlebury Duke Nelson Classic this Saturday and Sunday

FIELD HOCKEY RIPS OSWEGO, 6-0

Senior Colleen Barber (Fort Ann, N.Y./Fort Ann) and freshman Katie Weber scored two goals each to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 6-0 season-opening win over Oswego State. Victoria Davis and Julie Lutz also scored for the Thoroughbreds. Senior Jenna Spackman had four saves for the shutout in her first career game in goal. Skidmore is at Middlebury Saturday

WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS WITH WIN

The Skidmore College women's soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 win over Castleton State, Saturday night at Skidmore Stadium. Faleesha Higgins and Morgan Cadwell scored for the Thoroughbreds, while Rebecca Johnson had six saves. Skidmore is at Potsdam on Sept. 6

MEN'S SOCCER BEATS NORWICH IN OT

Freshman Colin Minte scored his second goal of the game six minutes into OT to give the Skidmore College men's soccer team a 3-2 overtime win against Norwich in the first round of the St. Michael's Tournament. Skidmore will face St. Michael's in Sunday's championship game at 12 p.m. Michael Grazewski also scored for the Thoroughbreds.

RIT WINS VOLLEYBALL EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT

RIT beat Skidmore 3-0 in the championship match of the Skidmore Early Bird Volleyball Tournament. The Thoroughbreds beat St. Rose (3-2) and New Paltz (3-0) to advance to the finals. Erin Black and Courtney Lambert made the All-Tournament team. Black averaged 3.91 kills per game, while Lambert had 115 assists and 28 digs in the three matches.

SKIDMORE TEAMS READY FOR FALL ACTION

The 2003-2004 intercollegiate athletic season gets under way this weekend when a full slate of contests.

The volleyball team will host the six-team Skidmore Early Bird Tournament on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds open at 9 a.m. against St. Rose. Skidmore will face New Paltz at 1 p.m. the first place match is at 4:30 p.m.

The women's soccer team will enter the Sarah Cooper era at home Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Castleton State.

The men's soccer team opens its season on Saturday at the St. Michael's tournament.

The field hockey team begins its season at home Monday at 5:30 p.m. against Oswego.
