WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2013 SUMMER YOUNG WRITERS INSTITUTE
The SYWI is open to any high school student entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the Fall of 2013.
Please read this entire page for instructions on how to apply before continuing on to the online application.
A complete application consists of the following.
- Completed online application form submitted electronically with nonrefundable $40
application fee. You may request a fee waiver if you are unable to pay the fee.
- Send as attachment to online application your best writing sample—any genre(s) (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, play, screenplay)—up to a maximum of 15 pages (typed, double-spaced).
All required supplemental material will be uploaded to your online application. Please make sure you have the attachments ready and in the correct format prior to starting the online application process.
Please make sure the file name of your attachment has your full name and item uploading, example: JohnSmithSample.docx—no spaces and no symbols
Uploads should be in the following format and be no larger than 100MB each.

- If applicable, a financial aid application and supporting materials sent by hard copy to:

Submission of all of the above is due by April 1, 2013.
Writers that are accepted into the Summer Young Writers Institute will be notified after April 20, 2013.
