How to Edit Your Site

for Barry Goldensohn

STEP 1 : Start up Dreamweaver by going to START > PROGRAMS > DREAMWEAVER or by clicking the shortcut on your desktop.

STEP 2 : Select SITE > NEW SITE from the menu ontop of your screen. Note that you'll only have to do step 2 to 2b once.

STEP 2 b: FIll in the LOCAL INFO and REMOTE INFO as shown below. Remember the metaphor of the Internet being a collection of file cabinets, with each web site being a file cabinet which is in turn made up of various files (such at text, pictures, etc.). To make changes to a web site (a file from the file cabinet), one selects the file and brings it back (GET) to the desk (aka you PC). You make changes here, save them, and then walk them back (PUT) to the file cabinet where they will be updated for all to see.

Local Info settings for you site. You can click the manilla
folder on the left side of LOCAL ROOT FOLDER to find
a space for your web files. This spot is entirely up to you.

Step 3 :Once you have setup your site, you're all done. You will not have to do it again unless you're editing your site from various different mahines such as in public labs. In this case, you will NOT want to save your password. Only save your password when you are working on your own machine. To access you site in the future (once it has already been setup), Select SITE >OPEN SITE from the menu ontop of your screen and select you site. A window will pop up and you'll hit the CONNECT Button which is show below.

Step 4 : Once you are connected to your site and after you have entered your password (optional), the following will appear. The connect button should now be green.

This is you site! Notice that the web (file cabinet) files are on the left side of the screen while your desktop (desk) is
on the right side of the screen. All you need to do to get a file is Highlight it and push the green Get arrow. The
file will now be on the left side of the screen. To edit it, highlight and double click it. Once you have completed
your changes, PUSH THE CONNECT BUTTON TO PUT IT BACK ON THE WEB SERVER, IT WILL ASK YOU
IF YOU WANT TO SAVE AND SAY YES!!!

That's all there is to it.
