Internship List Websites

Websites provide internship postings and more importantly, enable you to identify the organizations and agencies of interest so you can apply for opportunities that aren't posted. Here are some good ones:

The Web is an incredible source for job information. This list includes positions in academia as well as a long list of available applied jobs. Take a look below for a sample of what's available. The Washington Post has a nice series of articles on how to get your first job that are worth reviewing.

Nonprofit Sites

Extensive information, including contact people, for nearly 70,000 nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. An excellent way to identify employers to contact for non-posted positions. Also provides posted internships. 

VolunteerMatch -

Enables you to locate opportunities by zip code and career area and to receive customized emails. 

AmeriCorps -

Offers summer programs across the country and in many areas of service. Click on"Connect" on the home page, and then "Find A Program." 

Student Conservation Association -

Paid internships, three months to one year in duration in fields such as conservation, wilderness patrols, environmental education, public policy, biological research, and historic preservation.

Government Sites A database of state government employers in the U.S.

Partnership for Public Service - Their internship directory includes information on more than 200 federal internship programs and is searchable by agency, eligibility, and location. 
New York City Government Internships - Summer internship listings with a wide range of city government agencies.

DC Jobs and Internships

City Limits A list of a wide variety of positions in non-profit organizations from the City Limits newspaper

The Washington Network Group is a networking organization of professionals in business, finance,

Roll Call Jobs-   Roll Call is the leading publication for Congressional news.  This is its job and employment page.

National Conference of State Legislatures Job Clearinghouse  a wide listing of city, state, and federal jobs in government

USA Jobs

The U.S. Government's official site for jobs and employment information, maintained by the Office of Personnel Management. Many positions requiring a social science background can be found through this site.

Jobs in State Government 
The National Council of State legislatures has links for job openings in a number of state legislatures as well as other state agencies. It is by no means comprehensive, but certainly worth looking at.  If you are interested in employment opportunities with state legislatures, check it periodically.



The Corporation for National Service has job openings at the headquarters in Washington D.C. as well as in field offices across the country.  This site also contains information on other current job openings and how to apply.
