Acceleration III
1993
This drawing and the next were part of a series of charcoal drawings
which Joanne created in 1993. The differences in the coloration between
this image and the next (Snake Ritual) which are visible on the web
photos as well as the differences in texture which are not as evident in
photos as they are in the presence of the actual object are no accident.
Indeed the charcoal which Joanne used for this series of drawings was not
a commercially produced product, but was created by Joanne herself in our
home fireplace and in our campfires as we camped during the summer of '93.
The variations produced by different types of wood buring for different lengths
of time at different temperatures made for a wide range of textures and colors
(including light and dark greys, some almost black, to various shades of brown)
in the resulting charcoal.
