| An examination of selected genres and performances representing some of the musics of the Indian Subcontinent. The semester will begin with examples of the classical musics of Southern and Northern India and consider other musical styles as time permits. Central concepts under consideration include raga and tala. Examples for close examination selected from the genres of kriti, ragam-tanam-palavi, pacharagam, khyal, dhrupad, thumri, and others. |
