Leaving the Sierras

As we drove down Tioga Pass, we looked back across Tioga Lake
toward Yosemite National Park.

The Tioga Pass Road, quite an engineering project.

Looking back up into Tioga Pass.

Goodbye Sierras :(

Great Basin

The Great Basin is located in the western part of Nevada. It is a basin of internal drainage and a desert. There are long stretches of unpopulated land to get to the Basin and very little population within it.

The Great Basin seen from the road up to Wheeler Peak
in Great Basin National Park.

Wheeler Peak is the sharp peak in the background.

About 1,000 feet below the top of Wheeler Peak, we hiked the Alpine Lakes Trail
along this creek.

The higher we got, the more spectacular the view of Wheeler Peak became.

Teresa Lake.

The Start of the Trip Home

Driving east we crossed the San Raphael Swell, a broadbacked uplift.
The view is into Castle Valley.

Spotted Wolf Canyon on the East Flank of the San Raphael Swell.
You can see east dipping (sloping) rocks of the Swell.

Return to the top.                                 The end. Return to the Home Page.
