McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park

McArthur-Burney is a nice California state park that we could reach for the second night in California after we had spent the day touring Lava Beds. It is a popular site because it has the Burney Falls and Lake. Burney Mountain is nearby. We are headed south toward Lassen National Park. For more information on McArthur-Burney go to: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=455.

On the way to McArthur-Burney we had a view of Mount Shasta.

The closer we got the better the views of Shasta became.
Yes, it is a composite volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Mountains.
Shasta is 11,000 feet high from the base to the summit and has five active glaciers.

Burney Falls, 129 feet high.
The water is flowing over the top and between basalt lava flows.

Looking back up Burney Creek from the Rainbow Bridge.

Burney Mountain.
We tried to drive to the top.

Mount Shasta from three quarters of the way up Burney Mountain.
The road got so bad we decided not to go to the top and did not have the time to hike it.

Return to the top.                                 Continue to the Next Part of the Trip.
