Dr. Kelly Sheppard

Professor Kelly Sheppard joined the Chemistry Department at Skidmore College in the fall of 2010. In addition he is affiliated with the RNA Institute at SUNY-Albany. Dr. Sheppard went to Occidental College for his undergraduate studies, majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Politics. He then worked at the Stanford Human Genome Center under Dr. David Cox & Dr. Michael Olivier. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale University. For his thesis, he studied RNA-dependent glutamine biosynthesis in the laboratory of Dr. Dieter Söll. Following his Ph.D., he stayed in the laboratory as a post-doctoral associate studying archaeal glutamyl-tRNA synthetases, tRNA ligases, transamidosomes, and molecular phylogenetics.
