The classroom is equipped with an instructor's control panel, ceiling-mounted projection, a marker board, all interconnected via a small wireless transmitter located in a corner of the room.
Since tomorrow's laptops will include a wireless receiver, when students turn on their laptops, the computers sense the transmitter and automatically connect to the classroom network. At the same time, the Jini code within the projector and marker board automatically inform the laptop on how to communicate with them. Thus, within seconds each student's computer is fully ready to network with the classroom's facilities.
During class, the instructor touches the control panel to signal the projector to display the contents of her computer screen. At another point, she can project one of the student's work by selecting that computer on the control panel. Meanwhile the students can share documents or capture snapshots of the projected image or the marker board for later review.
Prior assignments are collected and new assignments distributed by a simple file transfer command on each computer.
