Lewis Rosengarten, (EMAIL for scores and parts) Doctor of Music from Indiana University at Bloomington, is the associate director for the Higher Education Opportunity Program/ Academic Opportunity Program at Skidmore which involves supporting students academically across the disciplines. He has also lectured at Skidmore since 1992, in music and interdisciplinary arts with research focusing on contemporary music, jazz and integrating cultural considerations with meaning in music. His original music has been performed by the Alabama symphony, Nova, has had numerous airings on Public Radio and includes work for the theatre. He has received grants from ASCAP, Margaret Jory, and Keck and has composition awards from ASCAP/Nissim, Society of Composers, Composers Guild and NACUSA. In 2001, his book, Jazz in Short Measures, was published by Authors Choice Press. Dr. Rosengarten recently composed music for performances of Seanus Heaney's play "The Burial at Thebes" and is currently working on a Concertina Fantasy for flute, harp, marimba and strings.
