Course Objectives
EN 103: Writing Seminar I students will
Understand writing as a recursive process and explore their own writing processes Write productive thesis statements Use evidence appropriately to support claims and assertions Integrate supporting evidence and quotations effectively in papers Use and cite sources properly Develop and order thoughts in focused paragraphs Write appropriate introductory and concluding paragraphs Review and follow the principles of punctuation, grammar, usage, and sentence structure of American English Write coherent and cohesive essays through attention to logic, organization, and clarity Develop effective strategies for global and local revision Practice revision as an essential part of the writing process designed to clarify and strengthen meaning Read texts closely and critically, including student essays, their own writing, and published texts.
