A Hypertext . . .

consists of a nonlinear collection of texts (called nodes or lexia) and connections

extending outward,

linking

to paragraphs, sentences, or digitalized graphics or sound. How readers navigate the hypertext--which links they choose and in which order--creates meaning for the individual hypertext.

Because hypertexts extend and subvert the conventions of traditional texts, creating hypertexts requires multiple literacies.
