Rules of the Ride

Note: By participating in a group ride or gymkhana, the participant agrees to the conditions as specified in the Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement and the gymkhana rules below.

Rides may include steep hills, sharp curves, and urban traffic. "Fast" rides may travel at up to 55 mph (that's 61 mph on a Vespa speedometer).

Either arrive with a full tank, or allow enough time to fill up.

Every rider should have the cell phone number of the Leader (to be provided) and at least one other rider in the group.

If possible, arrange to have a "buddy" to stop and assist in case of a breakdown.

On "fast" rides, the smallest bikes (175cc or less) will ride up front, behind the Leader. Large bikes (400cc and more) will ride in the back, ahead of the Sweep.

Know the standard formation hand signals and pass the Leader's signals back through the group.

Obey all traffic control devices (lights, signs, pavement markings, etc.).

Except for unusual circumstances, we will not pass—either cars or each other. Maintain your place in the formation.

Keep up with the rider ahead, the distance varying with speed to maintain a 2-second separation. A large break between riders invites cars to cut in.

In town, maintain a tight, staggered formation to limit the number of times the group gets broken up at stoplights.

When you pass a stoplight, glance in your mirror to see if the person behind you made it through. If not, beep three times to alert the bike ahead of you (and, by chain, the Leader). Once alerted, the group will pull over at a safe spot and wait.

If you are the first person caught at a red light, beep three times to alert the rider in front of you. Once you start moving again, beep twice to alert the group parked ahead that it's time to proceed.

When the group becomes separated, don't stress or do anything rash. It'll get back together in due time. Remember, safety first!

Release of Liability, Covenant Not to Sue, Waiver and Agreement

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge that I understand that scooter & scooter or motorcycle riding, including the participation in Gymkhana motor sports, is hazardous and may result in serious injury or death. I understand that this activity in which I am voluntarily participating has inherent risks (including death, loss of limb and permanent disability, and damage to or loss of property) that I assume. I certify that I am duly licensed and competent to operate a scooter or scooter or motorcycle in a safe manner and the vehicle I will be operating during the event is in safe and legal operating condition. I am solely responsible to determine the speed and operational characteristics of my scooter or motorcycle and my ability as a scooter or motorcycle operator while participating in the event. I hereby agree to expressly and voluntarily accept and assume all risks involved in operating a scooter or motorcycle or participating as a scooter or motorcycle passenger while participating in a event during the A*Town Rumble.

I hereby covenant, as a scooter or motorcycle operator or passenger, not to sue the Capital District Cooperative, Inc., organizers of the A*Town Rumble, their owners, agents, employees, officers, directors, managers and representatives for any and all loss or damage including property damage or loss, personal injury, permanent disability and/or death, arising out of my participation in this activity (including, but not limited to riding, touring, gymkhana, transportation to and from the activity, and at all lodging and stops). The A*Town Rumble makes no warranty regarding conditions, safety of roadways, weather, lodging or stops, and I assume all risk that the conditions, safety of roadways, weather, lodging or stops are other than what is expected. I understand and agree the A*Town Rumble is acting only to provide guidance as to routes, and to obtain meals along the route, and I hereby release and hold harmless the A*Town Rumble, its organizers, agents, assigns and heirs against any and all claims, causes of action, or any other liability of any kind arising from my operation of a scooter or motorcycle, or as a scooter or motorcycle passenger during my activity of scooter or motorcycle touring.

By signing this agreement, I agree to abide by all event requirements regarding safe and legal operation of scooter or motorcycles, no use of alcohol or drugs during riding events and agree that any violation of these requirements will result in the termination of my participation in the event without recourse or refund. I certify that I have no known physical or mental impairment that may affect my safety or the safety of the group. I understand that, subsequent to state and local regulations, wearing a helmet is mandatory and the A*Town Rumble most strongly recommends its event participants to wear protective gear. Further, I certify that I am not under the influence of alcohol, any narcotic, or other drug that may impair my understanding or judgment.

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge that I have read this liability waiver and agreement and that I am waiving any claim as set forth herein for myself, my spouse, personal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the event, I hereby release, waive, hold harmless, discharge, and agree to indemnify the Capital District Cooperative, Inc., A*Town Rumble, its organizers, agents, employees, officers, directors, managers and representatives from any and all liability to me, my spouse, personal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin for any and all claims, demands, liability, loss or damage (including property damage or loss, personal injury, permanent disability and/or death), in any way resulting from or arising in connection with this activity. I hereby agree to fully assume the risk and full responsibility of bodily injury, permanent disability, death or property damage due to the negligence of those being released herein, and on behalf of myself, my spouse, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin.

I acknowledge and agree that there are inherent risks of serious bodily injury and/or death and the purpose of this liability waiver and agreement is to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the law of the state of New York and that if any portion hereof be held invalid, I do expressly agree that the balance shall notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.

I further agree to the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use and publish video or photographs of me, or in which I may be included, for editorial trade, advertising, and any other purpose and in any manner and medium.

The undersigned has read and voluntarily signs this Release of Liability, Covenant Not to Sue, Waiver and Agreement.

Gymkhana

The gymkhana is a timed event. The rider begins on the start line, performs a series of tasks, and ends with his or her front wheel on the stop line. Failure to successfully perform a task will incur a 2-second penalty, as will missing a cone or moving a cone. There is no penalty for putting a foot down or for stopping. The rider with the shortest time on course, including any penalties, wins the event. The judge’s ruling on time and penalties is final.

The course was designed to be performed by a single rider, but there is no prohibition against carrying a passenger as long as it does not compromise safety.

The rider is solely responsible for the safe operation of his or her vehicle. The rider must wear all required safety gear, and his or her vehicle must be legally registered, inspected, insured, and in roadworthy condition. Unsafe operation or failure to meet the above requirements will result in disqualification and ejection from the course.
