On October 29-30, 1998, Skidmore College was lucky to have hosted five
diplomatic representatives of the European Union who visited various classes
and gave a number of presentations. Additionally, MEU had the opportunity
to host a breakfast for them on the morning of Friday, October 30. At this
breakfast, we had the opportunity to hear short presentations from the diplomats
on issues which we will be discussing at the simulation in March. We also
had the opportunity to ask them questions related to our country assignment,
the issues which we will focus on at the conference, and on the European
Union in general. It provided the students from Skidmore's Model European
Union with the opportunity to closely interact with real diplomatic representatives
of the European Union and to further their understanding of the EU and the
people who participate in it.
The five diplomatic visitors were:
- Dr. Gerlinde Manz-Christ, Deputy Consul General, Austrian Consulate
General, NY
- Dr. Ray Raymond, Vice Consul, British Information Services, NY
- Dr., Austrian Trade Commission, NY
- Mr. Rainer , German Consulate General, NY
- Mr. Wouter Wilton, Director of Press and Public Affairs of the European
Commission, NY
Among other events which will take place on their visit to campus will
be the following:
- Class Visit - GO 201: Principles of International Politics. A presentation
will be given on the importance of the European Union for each of the visitors'
respective countries; the historical significance of the European Union for

actor.
