The Disney Collection
Since high school, I’ve started to collect Disney-themed shirts. It started small with a few tank tops of my favorite movies, but it has slowly grown over the years. My taste has shifted throughout from graphic tees and tank tops of romantic scenes to more stylized shirts of my favorite characters. They have become a big part of my wardrobe. I’m aware it’s somewhat odd and usual, but my obsession with this company comes from a place of nostalgia and hope. I’ll recall fond memories of my family at Disney World when I was a young child or dressing up as Ariel on Halloween. The movies portray this childlike happiness and hope to follow your dreams to achieve the clichéd “happily ever after.” It may seem unrealistic or absurd, but I appreciate the message that they convey. I adore the songs, the romance, and the adventure. It may be clichéd, but it has become a big part of my identity.
Ordered by When I Got the Shirt
My first few shirts in the collection were bought from Hot Topic in my sophomore year of high school (2012).
It was during the spring/summer so I mostly bought tank tops and t-shirts.
During high school, I tried to find shirts that represented different movies.
However, I realize that Ariel from the Little Mermaid often appears in my shirts.
Around 2013, friends and family started to pick up on my collection.
Both the Bambi tank top and the Tangled shirt were gifts from my parents.
Around 2014, Hot Topic started to finally release shirts of The Princess and the Frog.
I recieved the Alice in Wonderland shirt from my parents, while the "Mine" shirt was the first one I bought in college.
My friend bought me the short sleeve Bambi shirt for my birthday my freshman year.
During my spring break of my sopthmore year, I got the Mickey Mouse shirt from the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Store in Disney World.
During my spring break of my sopthmore year, I also bought the Minnie Mouse shirt at Disney World.
My parents got me the Snow White shirt and the short sleeve shirt of "A Heart's A Heavy Burden" for Christmas of 2016.
Now entering 2017, I bought myself a few more shirts to add to the collection.
These new shirts have become favorites of my collection with the lovely Moana, adorable Totoro, and my favorite TV show.
