FAQ's for Faculty Regarding Testing Services-  2020/2021 Academic Year

The delivery of service model for students with disabilities at Skidmore College is a shared responsibility between academic offices and the Coordinator of Student Access Services.   This model has allowed the Disability Service Office to maintain a student-centered approach to service delivery while developing cooperative relationships with faculty and cultivating the understanding that disability support services are an institutional responsibility.

Space limitations and social distancing practices will require the testing services provided through Student Academic Services to be significantly reduced.

Students enrolled in classes meeting in-person, with the following accommodations, will be given first priority to the testing space.

  • Students who require testing in a private setting
  • Students who need modified test materials such as colored paper or increased font size
  • Students who have specific lighting requirements

Students enrolled in in-person classes not meeting the above criteria and students enrolled in courses being taught remotely will coordinate their test accommodations directly with faculty.  Classrooms have been assigned for accommodative testing (https://www.skidmore.edu/adofsaa/exam-spaces.php) You need not reserve a seat in advance for a student. Students who need accessibility devices such as testing laptops and reader pens can be checked out by SAS in advance.

Q. How do I make arrangements for my students with testing priorities to take an exam in SAS?

A. While we encourage students to initiate the process, either students or faculty can complete an online exam request form. We ask that the form be submitted at least five days before a scheduled exam. The form will generate an email confirming the date and time of the scheduled exam to the pertinent students and faculty.

Q. When is the testing room available to students?

A. The testing room is available for student use Monday through Friday 8:45 a.m.–4:00pm. Students are required to wear a mask and sanitize the testing station before and after use. More information on the testing room procedures can be found at https://www.skidmore.edu/accessibility/testing_room.php.

Q. How do I get my exam to SAS?

A. Exams can be sent to sas-testing@skidmore.edu. We request that exams be sent at least 24 hours before the scheduled test time. Please be sure to provide specific exam instructions when sending the exam to the SAS testing email address (i.e., regular exam length of time, if calculators and/or formula sheets are allowed, and any other specific exam instructions).

Q. How will I get my exam back?

A. Completed exams will be scanned and emailed to faculty. If the original is preferred, SAS can send them intra-campus mail. Faculty can also schedule a time to pick up the exam. Please include preference when sending the exam.
