Plant Biology Teaching/Research Labs

Dana 346 is a major focal point for plant biology teacing and research. In Dana 346, Skidmore maintains a large teaching laboratory equipped with modern microscopes, spectrophotometers, growth chambers and other instruments for plant biology courses (BI 180, 237, 337, 338). Dana 346a is the focal point for student-faculty research especially cellular and biochemical work. The following equipment is located in this lab and available for faculty-student research: BioRad 491 preparative electrophoresis cell, Rotofor protein separation system, dialyzers, electrophoretic devices for acrylamide and agarose electrophoresis, semi-dry and wet transfer devices for Western analysis, low temperature cell embedding chamber, ultralow temperature freezers, ultrasonicator, freeze dry apparatus and many other biochemical/cellular-oriented pieces of equipment. The plant tissue culture laboratory associated with the greenhouse has sterile transfer hoods and several plant growth chambers. The cell biology resource room contains centrifuges (incl. an ultracentrifuge), UV-visible spectrophotometer and a microplate reader.
