Quarantine plans and required information for student arrival

July 17, 2020

Dear Students,

In preparation for an early start to the fall semester, we write to inform you that Skidmore will provide quarantine housing and support to all students who are traveling to Skidmore from any location that requires quarantine, including states on New York State's Travel Advisory List. Quarantine housing will be in a local hotel in Saratoga Springs and will begin on Aug. 7.

New and returning students who need quarantine housing are encouraged to arrive between Aug. 7 and Aug. 9. If you arrive after Aug. 9 it may mean you will need to remain in quarantine during first-year student orientation or the first days of classes.

To help Skidmore appropriately plan for quarantine services, we need to know if you are planning to travel to campus from any location that requires quarantine, and if you will need Skidmore’s quarantine housing option survey, sent to you via email.

Skidmore will provide necessary support to students as they quarantine according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New York state guidelines. This will include a private room and food services for a 14-day period leading up to the start of first-year student orientation and the beginning of classes.

Quarantine housing will be provided at no cost to students who plan to live in College housing (including hotels) in the fall. Quarantine housing will be provided at a nominal cost to those who plan to live in off-campus housing on their own in the fall during the quarantine period and until a local rental lease begins.

Students traveling from any location that requires quarantine can choose to coordinate their own quarantine arrangements, but they must complete the 14-day quarantine period according to New York state requirements.

Students who currently reside in a state that is removed from the NYS Travel Advisory list prior to Aug. 7 may alter their plans accordingly.

Aug. 7 is the absolute earliest arrival date. No students will be provided housing prior to that date under any circumstances. Please plan accordingly.

We want to express our deep understanding of the complexities of air travel at this time, particularly for international students. As shared, if you arrive after Aug. 9, it may mean you will need to remain in quarantine during first-year student orientation and possibly the first several days of classes. Under these circumstances, Skidmore staff and faculty will provide all necessary information for orientation and will assist students with their transition into classes and the Skidmore community as soon and as efficiently as possible.

Additional answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about quarantine housing and return to campus are available on the fall planning website. The move-in schedule for all other students will be announced the week of July 27 and students will be scheduled to arrive to campus between Aug. 20-23.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to Saratoga Springs beginning Aug. 7.

Sincerely,
