Mandatory indoor masking to continue with events policy update; PCR testing will conclude May 18
Dear Skidmore Community,
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to classify the COVID-19 Community Level in Saratoga County, NY as "High" and recommends wearing a mask indoors in public and getting tested if you have symptoms.
In line with CDC guidance, the College is extending our current indoor masking requirement for at least as long as the Community
Level remains as "High." When that status changes, which I know we all hope is soon, the College will provide
an update.
As a reminder, KN95 masks (or equivalent masks) are required in all indoor public
spaces, subject to previously approved exceptions. Indoor gatherings with food and
drink continue to be permitted, but may include additional safety and testing measures
as conveyed by the event organizers and approved by the appropriate Vice President.
We understand that individuals and groups may be looking forward to gathering and
celebrating without masks. Therefore, our policy will permit single events to offer
the option of conducting rapid testing immediately in advance, with those testing
negative permitted to attend and go maskless for the entirety of the event, should
they wish. Such mask-optional events would be subject to approval by the Vice President
overseeing the division or event and would need to include plans for how to administer
and verify the tests.
In addition, as shared in yesterday’s Skidmore Weekly Bulletin, the last day of optional, drop-in PCR testing on campus will be Wednesday, May 18. Free rapid tests will continue to be available to all students upon request through
Campus Safety by calling ahead, or by appointment at Health Services for individuals who are symptomatic.
As always, thank you for your continued adherence to these guidelines and for your
support of one another.
Sincerely,
Marc Conner
President
