Seniors, You Got This.
Senior year is typically filled with excitement, and understandably some anxiety about what lies ahead. The Class of 2020 is “entering the real world” during a complicated time in which both students and employers are having to adapt and be creative. Here are some ways to take control of your job search amidst uncertain times.
- Your Career Development Center remains open! Make an appointment with one of our career counselors, develop a plan, and make sure your career documents are in top notch condition.
- Build Career-Ready Skills. More and more, employers are seeking specific skills from applicants. Now is a great time to review the online resources Skidmore has available for you to learn job-readiness skills.
- Network! If you are not on Skidmore’s Career Advisor Network, set up an account. This is a Skidmore-specific virtual community of alumni and parents who have volunteered
to help you in your career. We also have a Skidmore Career Connections group on LinkedIn with nearly 6000 members.
- Get familiar with PALs. Skidmore’s employer relations team is continuing to work with parents and alumni to post what we call “PAL” job and internship opportunities in Handshake. In most cases, alumni and parents receive your applications directly, and they want to help (and hire!) members of the Skidmore network.
- Employers are still hiring. Students can search for remote jobs and internships by searching in Handshake under the label “Remote Work Allowed.” We are also working diligently to set up virtual recruitment interview opportunities and will notify students as they become available.
As always, our team is here for you! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you have during this time.
